Prerequisite: The workshop is designed for both experienced and newer improvisers. Everyone who has completed the improv basics is very welcome to join. You don’t need to know any games beforehand to participate, though you’re very welcome to bring suggestions for games you’d like to play.
This workshop uses a Theatresports-style battle as the framework for exploring shortform improv. You’ll learn new tools and techniques throughout the session, but the main focus is simple: having fun together on stage.
Two improv teams face each other in a passionate shortform battle, taking turns playing games and scenes inspired by audience suggestions and challenges brought by the participants themselves. To keep things spontaneous, nobody can come fully prepared, and each team may surprise the other with playful challenges and unexpected twists along the way. Which team will embrace the chaos best, support each other the strongest, and win the battle?
The workshop combines learning, playing, and performing in a fun and supportive format. Together, participants will explore a variety of shortform improv games and techniques, with a focus on spontaneity, collaboration, and playfulness.
You do not need to sign up with a team — teams will be created during the workshop itself, giving everyone the chance to play with new people.
At the end of the workshop, we’ll split into two teams and finish with a friendly Theatresports showdown. I’m also discussing with the theatre whether we can invite a small audience to come watch the final battle.
Let the games begin!
Tamara Maasdam is an improviser and teacher from the Netherlands and Sweden, driven by and endless curiosity and endless desire to explore and learn new things. For her, improv is at its best when drama and comedy meet – when a performance can make her both laugh one moment and move you deeply the next.
As a coach, Tamara brings heart, energy, laughter, and a genuine sense of curiosity to the classroom. Her workshops blend playfulness and silliness with thoughtful, constructive feedback, creating a space where both the group as well as the individual can grow.
Tamara has performed and taught with Stockholms Improvisationsteater and International Theater Stockholm. In 2024, she founded her own theatre, Push Play Theatre, where she works as a creative director, organiser and improviser. She is also an active member of several independent ensembles, performing across Sweden and on stages throughout Europe.
